Welcome Message
Avenues New York Families:
I hope the summer break is going well and, despite the unusual circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you are finding ways to relax, recharge and remain connected to family and friends.
While our teachers and students enjoy some well-deserved time off from school, our campus leadership team, in collaboration with Avenues' global response team, has been planning for the start of the new school year and working to develop this campus reopening playbook.
Our plan for the 2020–21 school year is to maximize face to face instruction within the context of community health as well as any governmental constraints. We know this is the mode of instruction that parents, students and faculty desire most—while also caring deeply about the health and wellbeing of our community.
This playbook details many of the measures we will be taking on campus to protect the health of our students and colleagues while at school. I encourage you to read through it carefully and check back periodically as we will update the site as new information becomes available that may impact or change our plans. Please feel free to reach out to your division head or me with any questions you still may have about this playbook or specific concerns regarding your child's return to campus.
Please understand that our ability to have our campus open for face to face instruction as much as possible will depend greatly on the actions of our entire community—colleagues, students and parents alike. We all have a personal responsibility to do our part to try to stay healthy and help others stay healthy. This includes practicing proper social distancing each and every day, wearing masks when in public, staying home if we feel unwell, quarantining if there has been exposure to a confirmed case of COVID and maintaining proper hand washing and other hygiene measures. If we all commit to do what is required, at home and at school, that will greatly increase the likelihood that our students can spend more time at campus.
We are all eagerly awaiting the day when we can safely move beyond this pandemic and our lives return to what is normal and known. In the meantime, our commitment is to protect the health and wellbeing of our campus community and continue to deliver the Avenues education you were seeking when you joined us.
Thank you for your ongoing understanding, support and confidence in Avenues New York.
All the best,
Evan Glazer,
Head of School
